Logan County, Arkansas

Perched on a somewhat rugged road in Arkansas is Mount Monument State Park. Upon arrival at the entrance to the park, you are greeted by the visitor center. A worthwhile stop for general information about the park, trail maps and friendly advice on what to see and do.

If you have time to stay for a while, the Lodge is a wonderful hotel with amazing atmosphere and breath taking views. There are numerous spectacular spaces, both indoors and out, to enjoy the view and soak in the tranquility. There is also a restaurant with a variety of dishes to please most. Although we did not stay the night, the staff was very welcoming and eager to share the Lodge with us. A definite stop when visiting the park!

Located just yards from the Lodge is the trail to Signal Point. Although the trail could seem intimidating to some it is a very doable 3/4 mile to the point. At 2753 feet, it is the highest point in Arkansas. As I was expecting an incredible view, I found Signal Point a bit disappointing. However, it is the highest point in Arkansas and definitely worth the short hike.

If one follows the road beyond the Lodge, there are numerous lookouts, an amphitheater , and a picnic area. We took a picnic and spent the afternoon stopping at the various overlooks and enjoying the crisp mountain air. Late April was a perfect time to visit. We had the picnic area and most of the overlooks to ourselves. The air was a bit chilly but warm enough and very refreshing.
